Your Home and Floor Refinishing

 

Preparing the Work Areas:

Preparing the Work Areas:

  • Furniture:  Please remove furniture, furnishings and plants from the areas to be refinished.
  • Walls: Please remove pictures and wall hangings from walls.
  • Shelves & Counters: Please clear off shelves, mantels, and countertops.  
  • Closets:  Please empty out any closets that will be refinished.
  • Kitchens:  Please clear off counters; if you would like refrigerator or stove areas done please remove the appliances (typically stove areas are not refinished).    It is advisable to extinguish pilot light on gas appliances.
  • Laundry rooms:   Please remove washer and dryer if you would like the areas underneath done.

Removing Existing Flooring

  • Unless otherwise quoted, removal of existing floor coverings is not included.
  • Carpeting: When removing carpeting, be sure to remove tack-strips, padding, nails, and staples.
  • When Removing tack-strips try not to use a screwdriver   as this might gouge your floor; carefully use a pry bar or wonder bar instead.

  Pets

  • Please keep Pets out of the work area and doorways during the entire refinishing process. Out of curiosity cats and dogs sometimes like to enter the work area after they have been coated.  Cleaning  the animal’s paws and skin may require unpleasant solvents that can cause the animal discomfort  and irritation.
  • If you have a protective dog, please keep it tied up or kenneled. 
  • Birds and fish are sensitive to even small changes in their air. Bird cages and fish tanks should be moved to a room that is well ventilated and can be closed off from any fumes.

Drying & Touchup

  • Walking on Floors:  Please make arrangements to stay off the floors while finish coats are drying. Most jobs require 3 coats. This process may take 3 – 4 days to complete.
  • If you are staining a floor a darker color, it will take an extra day for the stain to dry. Some stain colors may require longer than 24 hours to dry.
  • Floors can be walked on the next day after they are coated.  (But it is a It is  better, when possible, to stay off the final coat for a couple days as they harden.
  • Touchups:  You may need to do minor paint touchups on baseboards after the refinishing is completed (this may be especially true if the paint on trim is recent, and not completely cured or did not adhere well.
